Key functionalities of CMS systems developed by zjednoczenie.com
Operator panel
The operator panel is the central element of CMS system. Only authorised users have the right to access it (see: System of access rights), those who, after providing their login and password, logged in the system. From the operator panel we gain access to individual modules of the system:
Structure editor
Web service sites in the system are organised into an orderly, hierarchical structure, based on which bars, navigation menu and site map are automatically generated. This translates into clear and effective navigation for Internet surfers, whilst for the user (operator) – into simpler management of the service. The operator can independently extend and modify the structure of the web service through:
Adding a new page only requires filling in the fields: name and URL address. The newly created page is automatically displayed in the navigation menu, at the same time the operator can specify, whether it is to be visible/hidden in the web service or in the navigation menu.
Web service in operator mode
When the users log in the system, they can see the pages in the so-called operator mode, which is different from what the Internet users see. Each page in the web service is divided into sections encircled with a frame, which is highlighted when we place the mouse cursor over the given section. Posting the content in the web service takes place takes place directly in the web pages and it takes place through adding objects to a section, which can be blocks of text, graphics or articles.
The access to operator mode functionality is possible through special buttons visible in the sections. The basic functions include:
-
posting new content (objects),
-
posting the existing objects,
-
managing the layout of objects in the page,
-
visible/hidden option, enabling easy and fast hiding a given object from Internet users,
-
-
deleting from the web page
At any time, upon one click, we can switch the page into the so-called "user view". In this mode, all the editing elements disappear and the website looks exactly as it would be seen by "ordinary" users of the service. This simplifies the control over the way of displaying the individual elements and the content.
Content editor
Watch presentation of content editor
The content editor is a multifunctional tool, enabling posting new content in the web service as well as editing already existing ones. For operating the editor, only basic office skills are required. The editor has been designed to respect the current habits of the users. its appearance and operation are intuitive and resemble very popular text editors (e.g. Microsoft Word). The user will very quickly get used to effective operations in this environment. The essential feature of this editor is the fact that the text in the editor looks the same as it will be displayed on the web page.
The content editor provides you, among others, with:
-
fast and simple entry and formatting of text (bolding, underlining, italics, aligning, arranging into points, etc. and specifying the level of paragraph headings (heading 1, heading 2,…),
-
·the possibility of enriching the texts with:
-
links to other parts of the web service and to any Internet page,
-
photographs and illustrations (e.g. in .jpg, .gif format),
-
tables, presenting specifications of data and ordering the information, with the possibility of their comprehensive editing as displayed,
-
appendixes (e.g. .pdf, .doc),
-
access to functions facilitating the work on the text: copy, paste, cut, undo, redo,
-
·the possibility of editing the HTML source,
-
the possibility of using text block templates for more efficient and error-proof entry of content
The advanced editor is at this stage only available in Microsoft Internet Explorer browsers in version 5.5 or higher.
Content browser
The browser makes a practical database for content published in the service, enabling:
-
Searching for information acc. to various criteria, e.g. type of object (graphics, text block, article), item in the navigation menu, words contained in the text,
-
Fast access to editing the given object and the function delete and move,
-
Selection of the way of displaying the objects (miniatures or a list)
The browser largely facilitates inserting the existing objects to the website, such an operation requiring only searching for a given object and clicking Insert button.
Access rights system
The access rights system enables assigning and delegating rights at various levels:
-
to individual sections of the service,
-
to individual objects,
-
to particular operations on objects
-
·within the entire application.
The implementation of the adopted access rights policy has been optimised through the possibility of creating user groups in the system. The created groups only need to be assigned appropriate rights and privileges for performing certain operations, and then, depending on the situation, move, delete or add operators' accounts to the group (the operator added to the group is automatically assigned the privileges specified for the given group).
The current access rights system combined with event registration module complies with requirements set forth for systems operated by large editorial teams.
Creating websites in foreign languages
Both the structure and the individual pieces of information in the web service can have many language versions. This enables translating "one-on-one" and running the web service in several language versions. In administrator mode, after switching to individual language versions, the content in the given or foreign language can be seen – marked specifically as "text to be translated". In normal mode, only translated content is seen in the service.
Certain functions of the editor to the great extent simplify entering foreign language content to the service. In order to enter the information, just edit the objects marked "text to be translated" in the foreign language version pages and through the appropriate interface enter the text; the additional help is the preview of the source text.
